Common Crows in place of birds

End of the month, few birds around, so here's three Common Crows.

Stick insect too shy to look me in the eye.

And an Agile Wallaby bridging the gap between us.

Best day's species count for January: 57. Very low 92 for the month. Escaped Cyclone Anthony with barely a breeze last night but powerful Yasi looms over Wednesday/Thursday.

Three butterflies on one stem! Wow! And I can't even get one to sit still for a photo!

Most of the time I can't either. One day might get them all in focus.

It's been a good season for butterflies! Are crows the ones with the amazing mirrored pupae?

Good luck with Yasi. Keep dry!

Mirrored pupae? Knowing a few names is almost total extent my butterfly info. Don't even have library's field guide with me.

Let's hope we all stay safe when Yasi monsters us.

Here's a pic from the Australian Museum site. I've seen the pupae on oleander, I think. My goodness, I'm getting vague!

Hi Tony.
Are you being evacuated?
Thinking of possible storm surge. Sounds nasty.
Best of luck.

Hi Bronwen: Not so vague as me, I think. But I'm almost certain haven't ever seen such a chrysalis.

Hi Denis: Sitting tight. Yasi sticking to beeline mostly west. Sad and very menacing for Cairns: less violent for Ingham. And storm surge not a factor for us 15kms from coast.

Rain and wind picking up intensity right now (noon, Wed).

Hi Neil: Sat out Larry in caravan but even before police came and ordered all out of vans I'd decided to get into a nice solid unit at Palm Tree park. Though it means missing being rocked to sleep :-)

Sorry to be picky, but isn't no. 2 a preying (or praying) mantis?

Oops! Other things preying on my mind.

Head up for dragonfly, head off for fish head . . .

One moment it's dragonfly trying to dance on White-bellied Sea-Eagle's head, the next it's all go for fisher's discarded fis...
