Helpful handful of honeyeaters

Bird counts in Tyto showing a slow rise, with a handful of honeyeater species helping boost numbers. Hard to miss noisy groups of Yellow Honeyeaters (Lichenostomus flavus).

Also found in small bands at times and good guides to pythons, White-gaped Honeyeater (Lichenostomus unicolor).

Building up after almost vanishing from the wetlands after Yasi, Brown Honeyeater (Lichmera indistincta).

Hi Tony
Interesting that some of your Honeyeaters are Python alarms.
With the Browns building back up in numbers - do you think they were blown away, or was it habitat damage. The number build up surely cannot yet be breeding recovery, can it?
Cheers
Denis

Hi Denis: Mainly habitat damage, I think. Suburban gardens suffered less and became even more attractive than usual for Browns.

G'day Tony,
It's nice that they're on the way back. Resilient aren't they? The wetter than usual summer down here seems to be producing a few rising numbers in some species, too.
