Who's the prettiest boy ... then?

Few prettier sights in Tyto than male Crimson Finch (Neochmia phaetonin prime plumage.

Splendid up close.

Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus) offers colourful challenge.

Intermediate Egret (Ardea intermedia) looks lovely in early morning light.

Male Cotton Pygmy-goose (Nettapus coromandelianus) floats in subtle beauty.

  2. Lovely study of the crimson finch. Its colour is similar to the beautiful red cardinal.

  3. Hi Barbara: Thanks. Early morn starts so much easier this time of year, so more minutes with soft light. But wouldn't you know, just when I start finding Little Bitterns out in the scleria the rains come and my transect becomes too deep for comfort!

Hi Terry: Cardinals of all stripes love rich reds, don't they?
