Sunning croc not up to smiling

No super smile at Macknade wetland near Ingham today but at least this Saltwater Crocodile (Crocodylus porosus) stayed sunning long enough for a few pictures.

First sighted and spooked the 2.5-3m croc after being distracted by a Brown Goshawk harassed by Willie Wagtails and Spangled Drongos.

Went back two hours later and found croc content to sit still so long as I stayed in the car, on a sugar cane track 25 metres across the water. More and better another day, I hope!

Tony! You say the croc was content to stay still - if it were me I would be content to stay still - in the car!

What a lovely big croc! I say this with great delight because I'm a very long way away.

Aw, c'mon Tony, couldn't you get a closer shot than that?
To think that something as beautiful as a bird evolved from something as ? as a reptile!
Nice stuff.

Gouldiae.

Hi guys: Not much danger with crocs on other side of water. Once in Kakadu, however, I wandered between camping areas and turned on hearing a cough to see big croc emerge from muddy hole right beside track I'd just crossed. It showed no sinister intent, but made me a safer stalker.

Hi Tony,
Nice story in the comments. Glad you are around to recount it.
I'm with the others - the best bit is the water between you and the Croc.
But its great to see one so well photographed.
Cheers
Denis
