Oooh, it's an 'oorrible drooly Oody bird

If the Ood turned into evil birds here's The Doctor's future scenario ...

... fighting off spiked-winged monsters with drooly tendrils.

Masked Lapwing (Vanellus miles) on the attack against innocent camera-carrier, said same disingenuously.

Would it be unkind to say I'm glad someone else has had problems with those monster?! Down here I don't even need to be carrying a camera to be attacked!

Lapwings can seem too aggressively protective of territory or young, but only Magpies have ever bloodied me with unprovoked aerial attacks. My biggest concern lately has been trying to train the camera on incoming line of attack. They do like to come from behind, and out of the sun: like WWI dogfighter planes.

I remember showing up to a game of cricket when I was young in Canberra - A couple of members of the other team told us to wander out to inspect the pitch, saying there may be a problem. They didn't say what. They then sat there laughing themselves silly as some masked lapwings (known to us incorrectly as golden plovers) took their best run at us. We retreated to the players shed.

Some of our team mates arrived. "You really should check out the pitch", we said.

Feathered Pterodactyl for sure! Lovely glint of unlight on those golden spurs.
