Kookaburra takes long lunch

Extra-long lunch for this Blue-winged Kookaburra (Dacelo leachii) in Tyto yesterday.

Common Tree Snake tries to delay the end.

But it's about to go down, down, down ... though the bird flew before the end came.

Shorter snack for Willie Wagtail (Rhipidura leucophrys) the other day.

Not so much playing with it's food as getting a more secure bite.

Crikey! That's a big meal. So the bird flew off trailing a length of tree snake?

Man,that Kookaburra looks quite frightening to me.I'm glad the one's that fly around my Brisbane home don't look like psychos.
The only thing missing are a few bolts through it's neck .-)

Hi Mick: almost right place: had to beat through high grass and sedge to get relatively close. Willies helped refind bird for me.

@snail: yep. Not first such capture I've seen. Probably no great feat for bird big as BWKook.

@Darren: psychos are the ones installing the bolts.

Great capture Tony x 2.
If I could write "squared" in numerals I would.
You and the Kooka, I mean.

Cheers
Denis

@Tyto Tony: I just meant that this Kookaburra looks like a Frankenstein compared to the cute Koookas that fly around my place, hence the bolt comment.I didn't mean to actually put or shoot bolts into it's neck.
I just meant a couple of bolts either side of the neck would complete the Frankenstein look.
