Finch sticks around for picture

More super Wet and flooding in Tyto early this week, giving way to weak sunshine from Friday.

Today, found slight increase - to 31 bird species - over previous Sunday. Notable rise in numbers of Chestnut-breasted Manikins. Very few ducks and cormorants. No egrets or ibises.

This Red-browed Finch (Neochmia temporalis) one of few birds that stayed close enough for a picture.

  1. Nice photo of the finch. I guess the rain has stopped for a while so you can get out again for a while. With all the rain out west again I wonder if there's going to be another big waterfowl breeding event out there? Or is it the wrong time of the year?

  2. Hi Mick: Might be more a question of hiw far Yasi blasted many of the missing waterbirds from all northern coastal areas. But good news today with a Little Bittern sighting in Tyto this morning. And a few Green Pigmy-geese showed up on the main lagoon.
