Standing and delivering the goods

Caught this Whistling Kite (Haliastur sphenurus) adorning post on my favourite country road today.

Some birds just stand around and yet command attention.

Bush Thick-knee (Burhinus grallarius) shows plenty of presence, at edge of new Tyto lagoon earlier in week.

And Eastern Great Egret (Ardea modesta) commands paperbark heights above another Tyto lagoon.

Beautiful photos of the Whistling Kite. I hear them often around here but they seldom come down where I can get photos.

Look at that spangled fellow! (The kite, youunderstand.) I saw a black kite perched on a bull's back yesterday. Couldn't help feeling that those talons must have been unconfortable but the bull didn't seem to mind.

Probably just as well bulls come with bullock hides. On other hand, had an injured Wedge-tailed Eagle grab my hand as I was helping carry it in blanket and talon barely pierced the skin.
